COVID-19 Policy + Health Safety

Fulton Montessori School has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This page provides guidance on the newly released standards in regard to the reduction of the risk of COVID-19 transmission for students and staff during in-person learning in the 2023-24 school year.  The recommendations are based on current guidelines and information available from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), and the Richmond City Health Department (RCHD).

As an organization, FMS promotes and implements the most current and available best practices for the safety and wellbeing of all organization representatives (Board Members), employees, students, parent/guardians, service providers (e.g. delivery persons, cleaning personnel, etc.) and/or any other approved person entering or interacting with our organization.

Face Masks

Mask wearing is no longer a requirement for FMS employees, parents or partners.  Mask wearing is also no longer a requirement for any FMS students, although they may be asked if they wish to wear a mask if displaying cold symptoms. FMS can provide disposable masks for you and your child, as needed.

Daily Health Checks

Sick Policy

All families are required to answer daily health check questions at check-in to ensure that we are monitoring all symptoms. If your child has any COVID-19 symptoms or a fever over 100.4, we ask that you stay home from school and contact us and your local health district for further guidance.

If a student, teacher, or staff member has a temperature of more than 101 degrees orally (100 auxiliary or under the arm), has symptoms and/or tests positive for a contagious illness our policy remains the same.  The infected person cannot come back into the school building until symptoms have subsided for at least 24 hours.  A doctor’s note may be required on a case-by-case basis.

Notification of Exposure to a Confirmed COVID-19 Case

FMS requires families who have been notified of a potential exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 case to notify FMS immediately about the circumstances. Families must contact VDH or their local Richmond City of Henrico Health Department to determine the level of exposure and the next right steps. FMS will contact VDH to determine the school community’s level of risk and VDH will advise FMS on the next action to take.
